Youth Guide Training Day 1 (delayed New Date TBD)
We are very excited to have our first guide training offered for ages 15-21! If you are between the ages of 15 and 21 and want to work on the river as a kayak guide with RAPP, this is your chance! All of our youth guides will be mentored by an adult guide and given opportunities to learn leadership, water stewardship, and have opportunities for paid work year round!
This is a paid training to get certified as a kayak guide with RAPP.
This training is 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday. Please be able to commit to both days.
Day 1 will cover protocol, basic boat knowledge, Duwamish River history, and wildlife.

Come out and clean up the river with us! We will meet at the warehouse in HeApus Park for a paddle and a clean up on the banks of the river.

BIPOC Full Moon Paddle
This paddle is for folks who identify as BIPOC. We will paddle along the Duwamish River and spend time looking at the wildlife and history of the area. With the new moon, the tide will be coming in fast as we paddle. You will have a chance to watch the water rise over the course of our 2 hours on the river.
June Garbage Clean up
Come out and clean up the river with us! We will meet at the warehouse in South Park for a paddle and a clean up on the banks of the river.
Pride Paddle
Join us on the water for a an evening pride paddle. Join fellow queers as we enjoy a sunset paddle on the Friday of Pride weekend. This is for anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA and the allies they love. A with all of our public events, this is FREE!
Duwamish Alive!
Duwamish Alive! is an annual community cleanup event at Herring House Park/He’apus Village Park in West Seattle.
We’re partnering with Puget Sound Keeper to offer two kayak cleanup shifts, each with 20 spots available. Sign up for a kayak spot to paddle on the Duwamish River, participate in the cleanup, and learn about the river’s history, marine habitat, and ecological and cultural importance.
Two kayak shifts will be offered with 20 spots each:
Shift #1: 10:30 am – 12:00 pm. Registration will open mid-February
Shift #2: 12:30 -2:00 pm. Registration will open mid-February
All supplies and snacks will be provided. More information as to what to expect will be sent a 2-3 days in advance of the event! Note, kayakers will also need to sign the RAPP Waiver on the day of the event, or prior through this link.
Spots are limited, so if you’re no longer able to attend, please email Tanya (tanyab@pugetsoundkeeper.org), our Stewardship and Education Manager, in advance so we can give your spot to someone on the waitlist.
We will also be launching the floating wetlands project built by the Maritime High School 9th graders! We are looking for volunteers to help out on land with this project. Please reserve either land or kayak.

Martin Luther King Day of Service
Join RAPP as we clean up the banks of the Duwamish River! This will be a day of community building, learning, and connecting the the river and water stewardship. More details coming soon.
December River clean up!
Join us on November 1st for a river clean up! We will meet at HeApus Village Park 4750 W Marginal Way for this months clean up event. We will paddle in tandem kayaks to a beach only accessible by boat, clean up and bag up garbage and paddle back to the warehouse.

Learn Duwamish River spooky history with Invisible Histories!
Join a guided kayak tour and learn the challenges and mysteries surrounding the burial space for 3,260 people on the banks of the Duwamish River from 1876-1912.

All About Salmon!
Come out on the Duwamish River and learn all about the salmon in our area! We will have a guest speaker and then paddle for 60-90 minutes. All levels welcome. RSVP here
Pollution Reporting Educational Paddle
Come out and learn about how to spot and report pollution and dumping along the Duwamish River. We will have a guest speaker from Puget Sound keepers along to help teach and talk about the process of pollution reporting. RSVP HERE

Join us for an educational paddle event focused on bringing out families of all shapes and structures to share the experience of kayaking together. The River Access Paddle Program (RAPP!) is working towards a long-term community goal to promote the Duwamish River as a safe and accessible place to get exercise, build community connections, and share information about the history and environment of Seattle’s only river. We are working with Duwamish River communities to create more access and awareness opportunities on The Duwamish River and the Salish Sea. Through a 2025 Duwamish River Opportunity Fund grant we are able to offer free programs to the public, encouraging health and education around the Duwamish River.
We'll be kayaking to areas only accessible from the water to remove garbage from the shoreline. We'll be visiting the areas around the He?apus Village site, Kellogg Island, and ecological restoration sites in the area. To date we have removed hundred of pounds of trash from the river with the help of our amazing volunteers like you. We’ll provide the kayaks, personal flotation devices and cleaning supplies free for who RSVP. This event is completely free to attend. If you have your own kayak and PFD you may join us on the river. Please still sign the waiver. All are welcomed. Time on the water will be about 90 minutes-2.5 hours.

No experience necessary.
First come first serve. We only have kayaks for 40 people (2 per kayak). Once an event fills up, you may be added to the waitlist.

Duwamish Alive!
Duwamish Alive! is an annual in-person and on-water kayak community cleanup event. We will host two kayak cleanups between 10-2pm, visiting the areas around the He?apus Village site, Kellogg Island, and ecological restoration sites in the area. Time on the water will be about 60 minutes-1.5 hours overall.
This event is in partnership with the Legacy Debris Cleanup and Duwamish Alive Coalition.

River Access Paddle Program (RAPP!) seeks to form a licensed and insured water-based tour guiding program or business that’s cooperatively run for and by people who live, work and visit the Duwamish Valley. You will help to provide affordable, safe and accessible water-based paddling tours of the Duwamish River. Our goal is to promote the Duwamish River as a safe and accessible place to get exercise, build community connections, and learn about the history and environment of Seattle’s only river.
In 2025, we are able to recruit and train 10 adult guides (with a focus on BIPOC participants) to complete a 2-day professional kayak river guide training. You will learn about cold water safety, paddle sport guide leadership, historically accurate information, and current impacts on the Salish Sea and Duwamish Waterway. Trainees will receive a $200 stipend after completing the training.
People who successfully complete the guide safety training this year will also receive paid opportunities to host your own community events, garbage pickup events and guided tours happening throughout 2025. We ask that you commit to at least 3 guided tours in 2025. Additional paid guiding work for school and community groups will be available. We look forward to seeing you on the river!
